The Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary club granted Villi Poni Farm monies to aid in the purchase of hay for our Newfoundland ponies. Villi Poni Farm is a weekly participant in the Rotary's BEST camp which offers students entering grades 6, 7, or 8 with a unique, summer camp-type experience. The program offers students support with Reading and Math activities as well as a variety of recreational, art, and interest-based activities.
Students come to Villi Poni Farm for an interactive skill building and educational program working with the ponies. Thank you Jaffrey-Rindge Rotarians for your kindness, and for inclusion in your fabulous program! For more Information about the BEST program in general please go to the Rotary's WEBSITE. Tooth day at Villi Poni Farm was a great success. 5 ponies had their teeth power floated (sharp edges filed.) 3 ponies are newcomers here but all 5 ponies were in great need of veterinary dental attention. Age was a contributing factor for 4 of them. Misty is not pictured. She fears needles and is wise to every trick in the book. We were busy settling her, not taking pictures. Dr Nate was fabulous with her.
Cabot, Storm, and Misty got additional veterinary care, preparing for their joint venture of making more Newfoundland Ponies to add to the worldwide numbers. The ponies who were seen on this day were ones who did not fair the tough winter as well as the others, despite the pouring on of extra feed. Some had cheek calluses and bruising from the sharp hooks - eating must have been painful. Two had tartar build-up. We are looking forward to their digestion to improve now as well as their overall condition and comfort. There are 6 more ponies who need power floating. Getting everyone's teeth attended to will certainly make things better for them and for us as well. However we do not have the extra funds to pay for that at this time with 2018's hay supply coming in, but will be holding a special fundraiser very soon. Thank you Dr Nate and McGee Equine Veterinary Services for your kindness to the ponies and to us. |
