Foster program*
We are in the process of fine-tuning our Foster Program and will notify you of completion soon. The Conservancy Center learns of Newfoundland Ponies needing homes from time to time, both purebred and crosses. While we promote the continuation of the breed, that doesn't mean we turn away ponies that cannot be a part of the breeding program. Geldings, crosses, senior ponies, and unknown bloodlines deserve love and care just as any animal does.
While we would love to be able to take in any pony that reaches out to us, we do have a capacity at the center. In that case we sometimes look for foster homes. Not only does this give a pony a soft place to land, but it gives the Ponies increased exposure, which means more people learning about them, their current plight, and conservation principles. This helps us and the ponies.
Please remember there aren't a lot of these ponies around, therefore fostering is not a common occurrence*
If you are looking for a companion pony for your horse, etc, we do not offer companion ponies. The Newfoundland Pony must be priority #1. We need that pony and our fosters to be active and involved with our mission, and conservation. There are some very nice rescues around with wonderful companion ponies and donkeys looking for homes where you should start your search.
Our foster homes are carefully screened, and an application will need to be filled out to begin the process. While we appreciate the global interest in the Pony, our foster homes MUST be within a two hour radius of the Newfoundland Pony Conservancy Center, as regular visits are part of the program.
*UPDATE June 2019 - at this time we do not have any ponies available for fostering or adoption.
