The story of Ammy's Honour

In 2011, when we were just starting the Newfoundland Pony Sanctuary, we heard about a 5 year old buckskin Newfoundland Pony stallion who, over the winter, had suffered an injury at his home at the time, a busy horse farm/dealer a few hours away.  He now had a broken right femur but though the vets had advised the owners to put him down, they didn't.  At that point it he had been on 4 months of stall rest since the injury, which we believe was from a kick by a bigger equine.  We were told he "wouldn't win in a halter class" but was improving. We decided to go have a look.  (You can see his disfigured hip in the photo above.)

When we saw him, we were frankly quite horrified. Improving was not the word we would have chosen!  Poor dear boy was in terrible shape and he was for sale. ???  We traded some donated tack as payment and took him out of there.
To be totally honest, this was a mission of mercy.  Our plan was to have our vet end his suffering.

BUT...that is not what happened. Our vet said he was small, young, and the break was fused.  She said let's see what happens. We had our serious doubts and questioned if we were doing the right thing by keeping him alive or not.  Well, that was 14 year ago and Ammy is still with us.  He is a sweet, beautiful, brave stallion.  He is an inspiration with a clear message to never give up.  He filled out and learned to move around in his own way.

However as he got into his senior years, he obviously was slowing down. Enter Summit Animal Health! Ammy has been using Summit Health since 2021.  Last July he turned 19!  Back in 2011, we were hoping for perhaps 5 years with Ammy but 14?  We truly believe the Summit products are to thank for his longevity. The change when we started him on it was almost overnight.  You could see it right away!

Summit animal health sponsors Ammy now and we are so very thankful!
