FIDDLER'S GREEN MISTER SCRUNCHIONS
HANDSOME IS AS HANDSOME DOES! I am handsome, aren't I? I came to the sanctuary from a Newfoundland Pony farm in Michigan, called Fiddler's Green Stables, where I was born. Moving here was kind of strange for me. I didn't know anyone.
My new pasture pals are a stallion with a bum leg and this other guy with HUGE ears who makes the WEIRDEST sounds I've ever heard. He sounds like this: Heehaw, Heehawwwwww. YIKES!. He was a new guy here too and his eyes were kind of bugging out like he didn't know what was going on either. But the people here are really nice, patient. They taught me how to have something they call "manners", like walking through a gate instead of charging through it. They put up special fence for me because I'm clever and like to escape. I got used to the big eared guy and the stallion. I learned that the stallion is the BOSS. I'm not - I'm no longer a stallion, and definitely not going to be the boss. That's ok; we are all best buds now. The volunteers are teaching me things, like how to carry a rider, which I'm on the fence about. I even had a harness on which wasn't too bad but I haven't figured out why they walk so far behind me like that, so I keep an eye on them. You should see the tricks I'm learning though! They are fun! Ah, they are easy to learn though because I'm 'wicked smart!. |
I like to get the two of them to race with me. Yah, even the stallion can race with that leg like it is. I'm the fastest though and I feel so fancy when I run with the wind. Big Ears looks so funny when he's racing, but holy moly he is FAST!! It's fun until the stallion tells us to STOP. Big Ears and I DO get a little carried away sometimes. |
Every once in a while this man comes here to volunteer. He has a cool camera and I LOVE to show off then! I heard he gives the sanctuary all the photos to try to help us from doing something they call "going extinct." His name is Rich Damboise. You can see more of his work right here: 2D Designs
Look how he captures exactly who I am in every photo - HANDSOME!

I guess there aren't many left in my family, and not many Newfoundland Ponies left in the world. 250 breeding ponies is all there are. I found out there are 35 of us in the United States and 10 of us are at the sanctuary. Besides being handsome, I'm really proud to help other Newfoundland ponies by being an ambassador for the breed, so that we all my have a future.
I am Mister Scrunchions. I am a Newfoundland Pony. I am special, but we all are special. We just need the rest of the world to find that out.
